Tree Planting Event Fills Quickly
Crestwood’s annual tree planting event at Crestwood Park is shaping up to be another strong success, with volunteer slots filling up almost as soon as they were posted.
This event is held in partnership with Open Space STL and supports the goals of Operation Wild Lands and the Missouri Department of Conservation’s Back to Nature STL initiative. It’s also a chance for Crestwood to celebrate both Earth Day (April 22) and Arbor Day (April 25) with hands-on stewardship of our parks and natural spaces.
As of this week, 34 volunteers are confirmed, and organizers may be able to accommodate a few more. That said, advance registration is strongly encouraged, and walk-ups cannot be guaranteed a spot.
Over 200 native seedlings have been ordered through MDC, and additional container trees will come from Forest ReLeaf of Missouri through their Project CommuniTree program. These trees are appropriate for suburban yards, and volunteers will also have the opportunity to take home a tree or native plant to plant in their own yards, while supplies last.
The planting will focus on restoring native habitat along the creek. Volunteers should dress for the conditions—long sleeves and pants, closed-toe shoes, and clothes that can get dirty. Work gloves and tools will be provided unless volunteers prefer to bring their own.
Due to the steep creek banks, the event is not recommended for young children or individuals with limited mobility.
If you’re interested in participating and haven’t signed up yet, please email Crestwood's Conservation Consultant Angie Weber to inquire about any remaining availability.
We’re proud to be part of this effort and grateful to all of the volunteers and partner organizations working to make Crestwood’s natural spaces healthier and more resilient.
